The last documented record appears to be a juvenile that was mist-netted in April 2009 in the Nakanai Mountains during a series of <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://pipap.sprep.org/content/rapid-biological-assessments-nakanai-mountains-and-upper-strickland-basin-surveying">Rapid Biological Assessments of the Nakanai Mountains and the upper Strickland Basin </a>on New Britain. This bird was photographed by Cheyne Benjamin, and also collected as a specimen (Australian National Wildlife Collection, ANWC B52372).
